The REAL Pet Costume fun starts below...The clock is running. Let's get to work!
Pet Costumes
Pet Costumes are one of the great
American treasures handed down through the generations. The proper Pet Costume choice is crucial.
Choose the right Pet Costume and get ALL the Candy! Choose wrong and and get the cold shoulder
from your cute little baby puppy wuppy doggie.
Ok, all foolishness aside (for a
moment)... My Pet Costumes really aren't fair because
aside from cute kids, cute animals are the most absolutely irresistible things in the whole universe. If you
have resisted spending money thus far, now you are TRAPPED. This is something your pet MUST have. These
costumes are affordable and most come in Small-Medium-Large. It's a NO BRAINER! Ok, back to
regular Halloween progamming.

Pet Costumes have been a popular item here for years. Why, we were doing Pet Costumes before
there was an Internet! Grrr!
Halloween has gotten to be as big, if not bigger than
Christmas these days, (In terms of money spent for costumes, parties, etc...not the religious aspect) but would you
believe that the Halloween Costume craze really took off in the early part of the last century?
Halloween Victorians who lived long ago in a dog of a world when old
Rover was still just a yip in his daddy's eye were all about making sure that they and their pets had
the latest fashions. A man would just naturally not venture out on a cool crisp Halloween raid with a mutty looking
dog. Nosirree! You can bet your knickers on that!
(About the photo above: Woofy the Halloween Pet Costume
wearing dog and his master, a scary looking fellow indeed, are on their way to their time machine to visit
HalloweenHome.net to grab the latest howling Victorian Pet Costume. The dog date of the photo is 13412. (In human
years that is 1916.) Please excuse Woofy. He doesn't realize he's not dressed yet.)
Of course, the folks back then without a computer or
time machine had to make their scary Pet Costumes themselves. Nowadays, most people have so many delightful
Pet Costumes to choose from here that they no longer have to bend over a sewing machine all day. This means that
you never lead a dog's life as long as you have HalloweenHome.net nipping at your heels.
Hint -
If you have something in mind, simply use our Halloween Costume Search Engine at the top
of the page. It works for Pet Costumes too! Or if you want to shop around, choose something below to start and
you'll have access to hundreds upon hundreds of different Halloween Costumes and at least
80 pet costumes to choose from! Way more even, if you look at our other vendors. To the right you'll find
the main category buttons. It's scary but Howling Halloween fun!
Woof!

Pet Costumes For MORE
Halloween Pet Costume Candy!
By Norman Morrison
Pet Costumes - There is only one critter on earth that likes to put on a
Halloween Costume and go Trick or Treating more than a human, and that's an animal!
When I was performing my research on the fantastic world of Halloween Pet Costumes I was
surprised to learn that Dog Costumes and Cat Costumes were the most preferred pet costumes among dogs and cats.
All animals LOVE to go Trick or Treating in their pet costumes. In Batman Turkey... (Trust me, if you click the link you WILL go to my
Batman Halloween Costume page)... Yes, there is actually a place called Batman, Turkey... The humans may have a
long established custom of carrying their Turkish wolfhounds on their Halloween rounds. In fact, more or less, they
encourage their large dogs to go to the door, ring the bell, and gather the Halloween candy. Unfortunately, the
ravenous Halloween hound dogs most often gobble down the tasty Halloween candy, wrappers and all, leaving nothing
for the master to enjoy.
Pet costumes have been very popular in history going all the way back to Rome in its later
days. The pagan Romans, always great Trick or Treaters, often carried their pet lions along, dressed as lions, when
they visited Christian neighborhoods.
Pet costumes most often come in sizes to fit dogs. However, it doesn't take much
imagination to realize that these scary pet costumes will also wear well on pet possums, armadillos
(aka...possum on the half shell), baby lions, baby moose, baby cows, anorexic pot belly pigs, large ducks,
raccoons, foxes, capybara (aka the largest rat in the world), sheep, turkeys, walking catfish, bunny rabbits,
cats, and small alligators. There's something for all of God's creatures here.
In the matter of Halloween candy collection, the well dressed mutt bedecked in its pup dog
costume pet costume, or even a scary looking cat outfitted in a gruesome pup dog costume may be a good strategy,
particularly if they are well behaved and not in the habit of biting strangers. Unlike the folks in Turkey, it is
advised to use the cute pooch or kitty as a prop, more so than a collection agent.
The problem in allowing your dog or cat to go to the door for the candy dressed in their
Halloween finest pet costume is that you must then retrieve the candy from the animal. Have you ever tried taking a
candy bar away from a really large, somewhat feral dog? How about a sharp toothed Mexican
Chihuahua? That's a quick way lose a finger, or perhaps even
an arm...Depending. I have personally seen some really bad tempered chihauhaus.
The best, and most sensible method, again, is to use your animal friend as perhaps a
comedic sidekick. For example, you might dress up as the Beast With A Million Eyes and then toss on a Disney Fairy
Princess pet costume on old Barky. It makes a formidable combination. You get the picture.
Then again, you might decide that a Pirate pet costume is the way to go. I have written
extensively on this subject on another page here. A real rootin-tootin Pirate with his trusty dog all decked out in
a Pirate dog pet costume by his or her side is a real aid to the all important task of candy excavation.

The Parent's Halloween Responsibility
One area that I have not covered elsewhere in this excellent HalloweenHome.net website,
which is the recognized primer for Halloween Costumes and now Pet Costumes, is the responsibility that you, as a
parent, have to your children and pets on Halloween night.
It is incumbent upon you as the certified handler of little Johnny or little Betsy that
you do EVERYTHING within your power as a good mommy or daddy to ensure that your child is not left holding the bag.
Your just duty is to make double sure that your child gets ALL the candy that is coming to him or her.
A great pet costume for the family pet is something that you can reasonably do for your
child so that he or she, as the case may be, will be successful on Halloween night.
You do this because you LOVE your child. You also do this because your child, along with
his or her Halloween pet, in full Halloween Pet Costume, will come home with a paper sack or pumpkin FULL to
OVERFLOWING with delicious Halloween candy taste treats.
It is your ABSOLUTE responsibility to see that the child does not overeat, and thus become
so sick that he or she barfs all over his or her brand new Halloween costume or on the tasteful Pet
Costume, for that matter.
It is YOUR JOB to remove as much candy as your belly may hold from the child and dispose
of it by EATING it yourself! And don't roll your eyes and tell me that you would never take candy from a baby.
When it comes to that delicious Snickers Bar that you have been eyeing since the return of the
Halloween child and Halloween pet, you WILL do your duty and dispose of it properly, bite after delicious bite. I
guarantee it. It's in the Halloween Parents Handbook.
Give up. Give in. Get the good feeling. It's time to scroll back up to pick the PERFECT Pet
Costume. Do it now. Do it for your pet. Do it for your child. Do it for yourself. Bask in the glow. Rowrwoof!
Meow!
