Then hearken to the present, your TP rolls retired, and your vampish role reduced to a door man or a door woman...the hander out of delicious candy treats.

Smell your fear as you hide your car behind your house because you know what went around in your youth might come back to visit you in your old age as new generations discover the joys of soap and eggs.

Get over it. Don't be the Halloween candy giver. Be the Halloween candy TAKER!

A "Haunted House" Halloween Party!

All sorts of Halloween parties may be planned for the last night in October -- All Hallows eve. But as Halloween seems naturally to be the night of pranks and simple fun, the Times suggests that it would be heaps of pleasure and little expense to have a "haunted house" party this year.

It is nearly always possible to find an empty house in the neighborhood. The chances are you will be able to get it for nothing or for a mere song from the owner when he knows it is for a harmless Halloween event. If, by any chance, the house can't be secured, a big shed will do equality well if it is "spookified" in the proper manner.

The trimmings for the "Halloween haunted house" and the decorations for table, the menus, the invitations and the games can all be made and planned at home. The only purchases needed are black silhouette paper, some crape paper rolls in orange color and white, some paste and some candles. Scissors, a little time and ingenuity should do the rest.

The "sprite" atmosphere will be doubly enhanced is some full-length sheets are hung as draperies in the room which you have chosen for your games.

The pastimes for this Halloween party should be the old-fashioned ones: bobbing for apples, hide and seek, fortune-telling and a ghost story hour.

The stories should be told in the spookiest-looking room in the house, where there are many draperies which will easily move gently in the slight wind from cracks in the windows or doors. The room may be hung with candle lights high up, encased in scooped-out pumpkins, figured with queerly marked nose, mouth and eyes. If there is an open fireplace so much the better. The embers should slow and slicker, but should not be allowed to burn up brightly.

Should there still be need of "atmosphere" large silhouettes of witches and goblins may be fashioned out of white paper, the features being marked in with black paint or ink. Hang these to the walls where the light of the fire will cast strange shadows.

Silhouettes of cats, bats, owls, etc. in smaller size will add to the appearance of the room and take away from the bareness of the walls. It will be best to confine the merry-making to one or two rooms, as an attempt to prepare a whole house for the event would be a big, tiresome undertaking.

There should be nothing of a nature which will really frighten the guests at this party or any party given on Halloween.

Remember the occasion is one intended for real Halloween fun and merriment. And it should be kept in mind that the "spooks" of Halloween walk but once a year and then FOR FUN.
